“As the Father has sent Me, even so I am sending you.” -Jesus
As God sent the Son into the world, so Christians are at the core a sent or simply missionary people. As this “sending” is embodied and lived out, an outwardly bound movement from one community or individual to another becomes the thrust of the church. The outward movement rooted in God’s mission is what compels the church to reach the lost world.
At Missional Initiatives, we have come to see that mission is not merely an activity of the church. Rather mission is the result of God’s initiative, rooted in God’s purposes to restore and heal creation. Mission means ‘sending,’ and it is the central biblical theme describing the purpose of God’s action in human history. God’s mission began with the call of Israel to receive God’s blessing in order to be a blessing to the nations. God’s mission unfolded in the history of God’s people across the centuries recorded in Scripture, and it reached its revelatory climax in the incarnation of God’s work of salvation in Jesus ministering, crucified, and resurrected….It continues today in the worldwide witness of churches in every culture to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Dr. Chad Tucker, Founder and President of Missional Initiatives, established this ministry to assist local congregations, both new and old, to understand, embrace, and implement a missional vision for their unique ministry context. His theological education, ministry experience as pastor, church planter and ministry consultant, and missional engagements in various scenarios prepared him for this calling.
While researching the Great Commission Resurgence of the Southern Baptist Convention, Chad’s burden to see the local church revived and thrive again through a missional vision grew stronger. The result of this research was presented in a Doctoral Ministry project entitled, “Great Commission Resurgence Principles for Missional Living through Expository Preaching and Sermon-based Small Groups.”
As part of his ministry project, Chad authored “MissionSHIFT: A Biblical Paradigm for Great Commission Living.” This project includes an expository teaching time followed by application-oriented small groups. The study considers the Biblical theology of missional initiatives, the Christological example of missional living, and the authoritative gospel-sharing, disciple-making imperative of the Great Commission. The application-oriented small groups offers the opportunity for participants to learn from each other through discussions that identify practical means of missional living. This combination has proven effective in many different ministry scenarios.
The Lord continues to open doors for Chad to take this missional living project from church to church. In addition, he is assisting pastors and church planters in how to understand, embrace, and implement a missional vision specific to their unique ministry context. The Lord continues to bless these efforts!
